ANOTHER RARE DREAM 8-24-23

Rarely dream

Mostly scary

Teetering on the cusp

Of a nightmare

But this morning

Had a “dream” dream

Dressed in a Renaissance gown

Speaking only in rhyme

And in Middle English

Shades of Chaucer and

LOL, how pretentious!

I woke up remembering

One of the couplets:

“Perhaps I’d care

For this luscious pear

That dangleth from its limb…”

My laughter woke me

And I felt so happy

What a crazy but fun dream

For a wannabe poet…

 LOVE’S COLOR

Music and Poetry

Have their own purity

Clad in white

Does not resonate

Clad in black

Is somewhat closer

Because notes and words

Have a deep mystery

Yet, it’s better to color

The words and tones of love

Like a box of Crayola Crayons

The Wizard’s Box of 120 will do…

GODDESSES WITH AMNESIA

We forgot who we are

Call it gender amnesia

But it is time to remember

Think and know

We are

No matter our political or

Religious affiliation

We are

Storm Charmers

Healers

Lovers

Nurturers

Maids

Teachers

Activists

Nutritionists

And this is all

In our own homes

We are

So much more

Double the above

When we work outside

Most importantly

We

Every one of us

Have incredible

Beauty

Our faces

Our bodies

All perfection

We must not let ourselves

Be compared to the unreality

Hidden in flatscreens

Hanging on our walls

Dangerously playing

With our minds

Remember,

We are stardust

And that can never be

Anything but beauty

Please don’t forget who we are…

This equally applies to men, but I address it to women because

Even after sixty years of feminist consciousness-raising

We are still starving ourselves to be thin

We are still staring into mirrors with dread

We are thought never good enough to ourselves

Let alone anyone else

But please remember,

We are goddesses!

Ray Charles & James Taylor singing Sweet Potato Pie

SWEET POTATO (Ipomoea Batatas) Tanka

Leaves bland but so grand

Mixed with Three Sisters planting

Corn and Beans and Squash

Beta carotene ‘taters

Sprung from manure and the Earth…

"THE WEIGHT" (Rock In Peace, Robbie Robertson)

*scroll down for a YouTube video*

As I struggle-strum

The Band's The Weight

I wonder what makes

A song so great

Enigmatic symbolism

But maybe all we need to know

Is that Nazareth, Pennsylvania

Is home to Martin Guitars

And in the end

It's the music that makes

Our hearts vibrate

The words are just stepping stones

Through a 4-minute world

Created for the fan

Canadian Robbie Robertson

With Southern Levon Helm

And all the other voices

In The Band

Painting the picture

For us young hippies

For those at Woodstock

For all those who carry the song

In our hearts

For decades

Straight into old age

Yeah, they took the load off Fanny

And put the load right on me

As I struggle-strum

And screechy-sing

A song I love

And would love

To write my own

At least one-tenth as good

As The Weight

But oh-so-dry

Is the floodgate...
